Weiss Röhlig (Thailand) Ltd. “Logistics Manager”

Rohlig established a Thailand representative office in November 2002 with the assistance of a professional Thai partner whereas the expansive Rohlig network could have the one central controlling point for all imports/exports and also a reliable office for sourcing additional business and following up important sales leads for actioning.
This office was managed by Australian, Mr Bill Meale, a veteran with over 40 years experience within the International Transport Industry and 16 of those years within the South East Asian region involved in hands-on freight forwarding and specialized project logistics.
This small representative office expanded steadily and needed to employ more key staff as the business level increased quite substantially with the excellent support that they were providing the network including our Austrian partner Gebruder Weiss.
About 10 years ago, Rohlig and Gebruder Weiss, two family-owned multinational freight-forwarding companies combined their strengths to complement their global network by forming joint ventures in selected countries.
They name these joint ventures: Weiss-Rohlig. On one side there is Rohlig, Germany’s privately owned logistics provider – on the other, Gebruder Weiss, Austria’s oldest transport and logistics company.
Rohlig was founded by Carl Röhlig 1852 in Bremen/Germany. Soon first branch offices were opened in Hamburg, Bremerhaven and overseas. During the decades of the 20th century, and the company’s leadership of four generations, Rohlig’s network expanded globally. To this day Rohlig is still a family owned company, lead in fifth generation by its Managing Partner Thomas W. Herwig. Rohlig today is a global enterprise with a greater diversity of employee skills than ever before – managed from Bremen, but at home in almost every corner of the world.
Gebrüder Weiss with headquarters in Lauterach (Vorarlberg) is Austria’s largest family-owned transport and logistics service provider and to this day a family owned enterprise whose development in transportation goes back more than 500 years, originally founded in Fussach in the Lake Constance region. In addition to the Central and Eastern European countries, Gebruder Weiss is also represented in the USA, Canada, United Arab Emirates and almost every Asian country.
The joint-venture companies Weiss-Rohlig together with their parent companies Rohlig and Gebruder Weiss have access to a global network of 234 offices in 41 countries and more than 6,000 employees with a personalized service that is second to none.
The core business of Weiss-Rohlig is intercontinental air freight and sea freight as well as industrial project business, with related land transport, warehousing, distribution and other logistics services. In addition to the normal freight forwarding services, Weiss- Rohlig focuses on providing tailored transport solutions, each to meet the individual needs of their customers.
Together as two strong partners, that can build on two similar corporate cultures and are committed to their customers. Two companies – one global network.

In mid 2008 it was agreed with Rohlig and Gerbruder Weiss that they would now establish  Weiss-Rohlig (Thailand) Ltd and the company was registered and approved in December 2008 with official trading commencing on January 19 – 2009.

Following the “Three Horizons of Growth” of the Rohlig Strategy 2018, the goal is to double the core business by 2012 and then double it again by 2018 – with new services and emerging markets. During the coming three years, the goal is to significantly expand the sea freight and air freight businesses and furthermore, the industrial project logistics shall become the third supporting pillar of Rohlig’s business. Another focus of Rohlig’s Strategy 2018 is to continue the network expansion with at least one new company every year, as well and in particular in the Asian/Pacific.
“ My future expansion plans for Thailand involve another possible office within the Eastern Seaboard region, not only for operational purposes but also for sales expansion within the many Industrial Estates within that region and also the Rayong area” says Bill Meale, Managing Director of Weiss-Rohlig (Thailand) Ltd. Bill Meale’s second focus lays on having a stronger emphasis on project export shipments within in this region with the growing number of steel fabrication projects and labour now being sourced from Thailand.
Also with the recent approval of the Asian Free Trade Agreement (AFTA) it has been forecast that this will increase the logistics business within SE.Asia by 10% and this is also an area that we will be concentrating on utilising our excellent network already within this region.
