Delivering Precision in Cold Chain Logistics: Röhlig and SkyCell Showcase Innovation at Heathrow
In industries such as healthcare, pharmaceuticals, consumer health, and premium goods, logistics is about far more than transport. It is about safeguarding integrity, protecting patients, and delivering confidence. That is why we recently partnered with SkyCell to host a customer visit at their advanced facility at London Heathrow Airport, one of the world’s busiest air freight hubs.
The visit highlighted how cold chain logistics - when executed with the right mix of technology and expertise - can transform supply chains and ensure that sensitive products arrive at their destination safely, effectively, and on time.
Air freight meets cold chain innovation
SkyCell is globally recognized for its temperature-controlled hybrid containers, designed to guarantee reliable temperature stability across even the most complex routes. For shipments such as vaccines and medicines, these advanced containers play a vital role in reducing the risk of spoilage and ensuring regulatory compliance.
This focus on reliability is crucial in healthcare and life science logistics, where the smallest deviation in temperature can compromise an entire shipment. By leveraging SkyCell’s innovation, Röhlig is strengthening its global offering in temperature-controlled air freight solutions with examples including the SkyCell 1500X Hybrid Container.
About the SkyCell 1500X Hybrid Container

The SkyCell 1500X hybrid container is designed to meet customer requirements for reliability, sustainability, and ease of use in pharmaceutical air freight and cold chain logistics. It delivers an audited performance of 0.05% temperature excursion rate with independent runtime of up to 270 hours at +20 °C across both CRT (+15 °C to +25 °C) and COL (+2 °C to +8 °C) ranges, even under extreme external conditions (−40 °C to +70 °C). Lightweight and easy to maneuver with a pallet jack, it enables fast loading in under five minutes, while its self-charging system works automatically in cold chambers or reefer trucks - requiring no plugs or sockets. With no dry ice needed, an optimized weigh-to-volume ratio and reusable, and repairable design, SkyCell hybrid containers reduce CO₂ emissions and less landfill waste by to up to 50%.
The Röhlig advantage in cold chain logistics

Businesses need a trusted partner who can integrate these innovations into global air freight operations. Röhlig brings decades of expertise in temperature-controlled logistics, offering end-to-end services that ensure compliance, transparency, and on-time delivery.
