Fragile corridor through Wellington and the upper South Island

Inter-Island (between Islands)

In the wake of recent events, realising normal no longer exists for freight transiting the affected earthquake regions. The corridor through Wellington and the upper South Island links are best described as fragile, and the area remains exposed to additional damage should any further events or disturbances arise.

Accordingly, alternative routes have been established to ensure disruption to your business is

minimal.  The main priority is to provide to a reliable and efficient service through this challenging time.

Two alternative routes which will be utilise add significant distance and drive time compared to the damaged SH1 route.

 The alternative routes are –

Route 1: Lewis Pass

Route 2: Arthurs Pass

We are sure you will understand that the extra drive time and distance will be a significant business cost  which simply cannot able absorbed. Regrettably, we will need to implement a cost recovery charge on certain routes.
