Government set to enforce Illegal Logging Regulations

Do you Import Wood or Paper products?

If you answered yes, you now need to comply with Illegal Logging Regulations. Full compliance is necessary from 1st January 2018,

The Australian Government has announced the end of the "soft start" compliance period. This means that from 1st January, the Department of Agriculture and Water Resources can fine importers who aren’t complying with the due diligence requirements in the Illegal Logging Prohibition Regulations. Click here to view the announcement.

The size of any potential fines increased earlier this year. Fines for not complying with the due diligence requirements are up to $63,000 for each breach. Penalties for negligently importing regulated timber products that have been illegally logged are up to five years imprisonment and/or up to $105,000 for an individual, and $525,000 for a corporation.
