This month many carriers have announced significant rate increases ex Asia with effect from 7th Jan 2016. The full amount may not be pushed through but we can expect an increase due to the increasing demand for space.

Space demand will tighten early in the new year due to the impact of Chinese New Year which falls on the 8th February. Traditionally, Chinese New Year has a huge impact on global supply chains originating from China and can cause delays with shipments during this period.

“We expect some impact during this Chinese New Year holiday period, says Martin Fernandez, Rohlig Australia’s National Procurement Manager. “Demand for space will rise during this period, especially for sailings in and out of Asia”.

Please ensure bookings are made well in advance to confirm space.

Rohlig increases supply chain offering in Shenzen China

Rohlig Logistics has increased its Supply Chain offering completing the Shenzhen Bonded Warehouse program at Qian Hai Wan (QHW). The Shenzen China warehouse has grown significantly in the last 2 years and to supplement this growth we have increased our offering  with an additional 1400 pallet bays of warehouse racking  and additional  1500sqm of space to meet the growing needs of the market. 

Increased footprint and network at Rohlig Dubai

Weiss-Röhlig has set up a new logistics terminal in the free trade zone Jebel Ali Free Zone (JAFZA) in the Emirate of Dubai.

This terminal allows the transport and logistics expert to expand their current air and sea freight branch into a full-service logistics location. The building complex is situated in the central freight transportation corridor between the largest sea port of the United Arab Emirates and the Al Maktoum airport

Rohlig Birmingham invests to cut turnaround times

Freight forwarder Rohlig Logistics is upgrading its infrastructure, technology and work processes at its warehouse facility near Solihull in Birmingham UK, designed to improve turnaround times.

Gary Pryke, Managing Director, said that for the company’s UK customers, turnaround times for the firm’s FCL groupage containers would be reduced to just three days – a first for the UK freight industry.

“We understand that, in a competitive business environment, timing is key, so we looked at every area of our operation to see where time efficiencies could be gained. By drawing on our experience in markets throughout the world, we were able to implement system, process and technology improvements that have made a huge difference to how fast we can get containers from port to market.”

Rohlig Australia put down the razor in support of men’s health

The Rohlig global family was delighted to see so many members of Rohlig Australia participate in the annual Movember charity drive this November. Aspiring to “change the face of Men’s health” the Movember foundation calls on supporters each November to grow facial hair and raise awareness of men’s health and overall well-being.

By putting down the razor and shaving cream for a month and seeking to grow public discussion of male illnesses such as prostate cancer, Movember has quickly grown in global popularity since starting in 2004. It's a cause that has fast won national renown for fun promotion of cheeky facial hair styles.

For Rohlig Australia, their Movember effort was also a very personal one, dedicated to the memory of Graeme Addie, a Rohlig colleague who lost his battle with cancer in April.

Hany Amer, Managing Director of Rohlig Australia says: “The mix of fun and a worthwhile cause made this year's Movember an especially memorable event. As a business deeply proud of its Australian operations and daily interaction with the wider Australian community, the entire Rohlig global family commends the efforts of its Australian staff during Movember.”

“This is particularly so when we think of our colleague Graeme Addie. We're not unique as a business to have a colleague touched by cancer, but Graeme was unique to us, and so we  are proud to raise awareness in his memory.”

Looking ahead, Rohlig Australia will continue its support of Movember. To date, the Rohlig Australia team has raised  $3675 in support of this fantastic cause. Already plans are in mind for next year’s event given the very worthwhile cause that underpins Movember.

Melbourne technology event and warehouse opening

On the 8th October Rohlig Australia held an opening for the new Melbourne office and warehouse.

At the same time, Rohlig Australia launched several exciting new products and customers were given a sneak peek. New technology, new products and a greater service offering was the order of the day covering topics such as Customs Consulting, Rohlig Courier service, SmartKit GPS tracking and 3PL contract logistics.

Customers were provided live demonstrations, in-depth case studies and a walk through tour of Rohlig’s brand new warehouse space covering 8000sqm with a comprehensive storage, pick/pack and distribution service offering.

Rohlig Australia’s Managing Director, Hany Amer, commented: “The Rohlig launch event represented a fantastic opportunity for our customers to see, touch and feel how expansion of our services via these interactive engagement sessions will add value to their business. Rohlig Australia expands service offering with 3PL in Melbourne

New Rohlig Melbourne warehouse

Excitement is building in Melbourne as we prepare to expand operations with the opening of a new branch office and warehouse in June. The Melbourne branch will move to Truganina, 21kms west of Melbourne's Central Business District, with access to main arterial roads, freeways and customer distribution centres.

The purpose built 9,000sqm facility contains 8000sqm of warehouse space with state of the art 3PL offering, customs and quarantine approved bond, 40m wide hard-stand, 4 recessed docks, 4 on-grade docks, 15m canopy, container packing and unpacking services. Our team will also relocate to a tech enabled office incorporating the latest office design concepts.

Rohlig Australia’s Managing Director, Hany Amer said, “the Truganina facility represents the first step in our national growth strategy and fulfils our client facing commitment to “Expand our Service portfolio”. We will now offer clients a greater number of services, giving them more choice and improving the “ease of doing business” with us.

Border reforms integrating with contemporary logistics practices

We have heard plenty of hype about the Department of Immigration and Border Protection (DIBP) industry engagement strategy.  I am delighted to advise a prime example of their genuine commitment to industry co-design.  
 
Assembly Order cargo reporting requirements has caused significant costs and complications for industry over the last few years. Current provisions require splitting of assembly orders into separate commercial consignments and conveyances (crates, pallets etc) and cargo reporting, out-turning and clearing cargo on a per supplier basis to meet ICS specifications.

The impact being that this limits the ability to manage contemporary logistics practices whereby trading entities, freight forwarders, overseas buying agents, distribution centres and off-shore 3PL operators arrange commercial consignments from multiple suppliers to be transported to the one Australia importer.

Rohlig Australia launches small parcel service

In November, Rohlig Australia launched ‘Our Courier Solution’, a customer focused courier service created to move small packages around the globe and provide full visibility and tracking.

With Our Courier Solution, Rohlig can deliver a full-service range of freight options. From out of gauge project shipments to large air and sea shipments, to speedy small parcels, Rohlig now offers the full range of transport services enabling customers to use just one service provider to fulfil all their transport requirements.

Our Courier Solution provides access to an online quoting and booking system for international express needs. It showcases full visibility of all stages of the delivery and includes alert notifications as the shipments progress from origin to destination.

China Australia FTA - confirmed for 20th December

China Australia FTA - confirmed for 20th December

Australia and China have finalised their domestic legislation and the Free Trade Agreement will commence on 20th December.

This will provide two rounds of tariff cuts in quick concession –

  • One on the 20th of December 2015
  • Another round of cuts on 1st of January 2016

Certificates of Origin

A Certificate of Origin (COO) is required for any shipment arriving into Australia or China after the 20th December to obtain the tariff savings. It is likely that the COO may take some time to be produced and therefore we anticipate refunds after entry is more likely.

Authorised bodies to grant Certificates of Origin

Under this FTA goods entering Australia must be accompanied by a certificate of origin issued by an authorised government body in China. COOs will not be issued prior to the commencement date of CHAFTA.

For Imports to Australia from China – The authorised bodies to issue certificates are:

  • China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT)
  • General Administration of Quality Supervision Inspection and Quarantine (AQSIQ)

For Exports from Australia to China – The authorised bodies to issue Certificates of Origin (COO) are:

  • Australian Industry Group (AIG)
  • Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI)
  • Australian Grape and Wine Authority (AGWA) (authorised to issue certificates for wine and wine products only)

Imported Building Products at Risk of Containing Asbestos

To ensure the ongoing safety of Australian consumers and industry members, the Department of Immigration and Border Protection is actively targeting imported building products at high risk of containing asbestos. The Department urges industry members to ensure they are aware of the import restrictions and border requirements for products that may contain asbestos.

See attached notice for  information on the risk of goods containing asbestos and compliance activities underway to ensure that Australia's zero tolerance of asbestos is adhered to.

Changes to Import Processing Charges from 1 January 2016

From 1 January 2016 there will be a restructure of the ICS Import Processing Charges (IPCs). This will impact the DIBP electronic and documentary lodgement fees. For more details please click here.

Our national offices will be closed on the afternoon of December 24th , Christmas Day and Boxing Day. We reopen again on 29th December.

We will close again for new year festivities on the afternoon of 31 December and 1st January. We reopen for business on 2nd January.
