Röhlig, the international provider of logistics services, is continuing on its course of growth with new offices in Asia, Central America and the USA. In the USA, Röhlig is taking over 100 per cent of its former joint venture. The company now has a total of 10 branch offices in the USA and employs around 250 staff. Since the beginning of the year, it has also had an office in Mexico. In addition to its existing offices in Southern China, Röhlig has had branch offices in Shanghai, Ningbo and Qingdao since June, as well as in Taiwan’s capital city Taipei. A branch office in Vietnam in July, and one in Indonesia in September will complement the most recently opened offices in Asia.
As the managing partner Philip W. Herwig explains, “With this major expansion of our presence, we are strengthening the centrepiece of our company – its global network of Röhlig offices and employees on all continents. Our takeover of operations in the USA is an important step in this process for Röhlig.” In the USA, Röhlig generated a gross profit of EUR 32.1 million. At 24.4 per cent, this constitutes the largest single contribution to the overall gross profit of the company.
Last year, Röhlig succeeded in increasing its consolidated gross profit to EUR 131.6 million. As in the previous year, the most important drivers of this growth were our business operations in Asia and North and South America. So, despite a fall in turnover of 8 per cent to EUR 549.4 million, Röhlig was still able to achieve a growth in gross profit of 5.7 per cent. As the Chief Financial Officer Hans-Ludger Körner points out, “These developments reflect the overall aim of our restructuring of the company. We started this process in 2015 in order to improve productivity and profitability and to achieve growth in gross profit.”
Last year, the volume of Röhlig’s investments rose by approximately 46 per cent to just under EUR 5 million. As part of its growth programme, Röhlig is investing, in particular, in expanding the number of its offices worldwide, restructuring its organisation, modernising its IT systems to create new digital tools and comprehensively digitising its order processing. Including its new branch offices, Röhlig now operates 141 of its own offices in 29 countries. All of these offices provide services in the core business areas of sea and air freight, contract logistics and project logistics.
